Over the course of seven months, Eric progressed through Lakeview’s Short-Term Residential Treatment (SRT) program and Lodges program, both tailored to support individuals grappling with substance misuse and co-occurring mental health challenges. These programs provide a structured environment where individuals can address their struggles, develop healthier coping strategies and build a foundation for long-term recovery.
Although the road wasn’t easy, Eric credits the structure and guidance of these programs for helping him confront his substance misuse and make meaningful changes toward a healthier future. “I’ve had a lot of time to think and grow,” Eric shares. “The experience taught me the value of freedom, the importance of staying motivated and how much I appreciate my family.”
Eric speaks fondly of the staff who made a difference during his time at SRT. “The team members were incredibly kind and supportive,” he says. One nurse stood out for her warm and caring nature, which brought comfort during challenging moments.
Dr. Godwin, a dedicated psychiatrist, also played a key role in Eric’s journey, providing thoughtful guidance and care. “The regular counseling sessions helped me better understand myself and make the changes I needed to move forward,” he says.
Transitioning from the SRT program to the Lodges marked a new chapter for Eric. At the Lodges, residents have greater autonomy and opportunities for personal growth. For Eric, it’s been a chance to focus on his health, rebuild relationships and plan for the future.
“My goal now is to lose weight, stick to a fitness routine and spend meaningful time with my family,” he explains. “I also hope to find something I’m passionate about that I can pursue, whether it’s work or a hobby.”
Reflecting on his journey, Eric offers thoughtful advice for others who might find themselves in a similar situation. “Prevention is key,” he emphasizes. “If you can, seek therapy or medication before things escalate. But if you need a crisis program, use it as a time to focus on yourself and make positive changes.”
For Eric, Lakeview Center’s programs have been life-changing. “They’re what you make of them,” he says. “If you approach them with the mindset to grow and learn, they can be incredibly productive and rewarding.”
In preparing to graduate from the Lodges program, Eric looks ahead with optimism and determination. His time at Lakeview has given him the tools to build a brighter future, and he’s ready to embrace the next chapter with hope and gratitude.
